Container Weighing FAQs

Implementation of SOLAS container weighing regulations

You will be aware that the Port of Felixstowe recently announced its intention to provide a container weighing service to ensure that UK shippers are able to comply with new international regulations that come into effect on 1 July 2016.

Having been at the forefront of the consultation exercise by the Maritime and Coastguard on the implementation of the rules in the UK and having engaged with customers in our own consultation we are now in a position to provide further details as to how the service at the port will be provided and the expected level of charges that will apply.

All full export containers arriving at the port, whether by road or rail, will have the opportunity to obtain the necessary Verified Gross Mass (VGM) weight at the port and therefore ensure certainty of shipment and supply chain continuity.

Full and further details can be found within the attached FAQ’s which includes a dedicated email address, VGM@fdrc.co.uk  to which follow-up queries can be sent if necessary. Alternatively, please contact any member of the Commercial Team via 01394 604500 who will be pleased to assist you further.

The Port of Felixstowe (the Port of Britain) has again responded to industry needs and remains the number one port of choice for the UK market.
