Highways England - Roadworks A14 Bridge Parapet Repair Claydon & A14 Junction 32 Histon Interchange

A14 eastbound junction 51 Beacon Hill – junction 52 Claydon

Highways England will be carrying out essential repair work to the damaged bridge parapet on the A14 at Claydon Interchange. These works will follow on from recent resurfacing schemes on the A14 and once completed will be able to removal the long-standing narrow lanes and 50mph speed limit restrictions on the eastbound carriageway.

It is planned to complete this work over four weeks from Monday 3 August to Thursday 27 August on weeknights only, working between the hours of 8pm to 6am, subject to weather conditions.

To minimise this they will be installing extra signage and positioning a van with a speed camera within Claydon village to deter speeding. Other essential work on this section of the A14 will be carried out to limit the need for future closures.These other works will include:
• vegetation cutting at junction 52
• resurfacing of 500m of lanes 1 and 2 at junction 52
• renewal of road markings
• installation of 6 new bridge joints
• new road signs
• drainage investigation work
• central reserve safety barrier surveys

Diversion Route
To carry out the work safely,  the A14 eastbound will be closed each week night between 8pm and 6am. The closure point will start at junction 51, Beacon Hill. Traffic will then be diverted via Norwich Road, Barham and Ipswich Road, Claydon to re-join the A14 at junction 52.

A14 junction 32 Histon interchange works

Highways England will be carrying out essential survey works at the above location to inspect the bridge deck.

These works will commence from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August, on week nights only, working between the hours of 8pm & 6am, subject to weather conditions.

The works will be carried out under lane closures which means traffic may be slower travelling B1049 Bridge Road southbound and Cambridge Road northbound.

However, on Monday 3 August and Wednesday 5 August only, there will be a full closure of the A14 at junction 32 eastbound and westbound.

  • Traffic on the A14 heading eastbound will be diverted off at J32 exit, and then will re-join the A14 at J32 eastbound entry slip.
  • Traffic on the A14 heading westbound will be diverted off at J32 exit, and then will re-join the A14 at J32 westbound entry slip.
